EndNote X5 for Windows available

Kresge Library staff are pleased to announce that the new version of EndNote, X5, is available for Windows. The Mac version will be released by Thomson-Reuters in late August or early September.

    Version X5 contains some updated features, such as:

  • A PDF view in the Quick view panel, located below the library view

  • Update a reference using a new “Find Reference Updates” tool

  • Custom 6 field is now assigned as the NIHMSID field

  • Substitute fields automatically when a chosen field is blank (this will be useful for citing NIHMSIDs when the PMCID is not available yet)

The Library is happy to announce that TSRI has an online subscription to the journal, Molecular BioSystems.

Molecular BioSystems publishes high-quality interdisciplinary research with a particular focus on the interface between chemistry and the -omic sciences and systems biology


Now TSRI scientists will have instant access to this highly requested journal.

New SciFinder features

In the spring release of SciFinder, CAS has two new features of note:

  • SciFinder mobile: Access SciFinder from your phone. Search options are limited (no structure searching), but can be useful to view your results on the go. To try it out, go to http://scifinder.cas.org/mobile

  • SciPlanner: A new synthesis planning tool that allows you to create a retrosynthetic analysis with reactions and references.

Burgers Medicinal Chemistry & Patty's Industrial Hygiene Online

The Library is pleased to announce the new edition of Burger's medicinal chemistry, drug discovery and development, available online. This updates the Library's print edition and makes it available to both campuses.

The new edition contains new and updated articles and covers the areas of:

  • Drug Development

  • Cardiovascular, Endocrine and Metabolic Diseases

  • Pulmonary, Bone, Vitamins and Autocoid Therapeutic Agents

The Library has also purchased the new edition of Patty's industrial hygiene, online, to update its previous print edition. Patty's industrial hygiene "presents valuable information on the recognition and evaluation of chemical agents, physical agents, and biohazards in the workplace, as well as engineering control of exposure and personal protection."

Free Trial to JoVE, the Journal of Visualized Experiments

Check out the two week trial to JoVE, a video protocols journal. The "Journal of Visualized Experiments (JoVE) is a peer reviewed, PubMed indexed journal devoted to the publication of physical, chemical, medical and life science research in a video format." JoVE aims to make learning protocols easier and save researchers time. The typical JoVE entry contains a video and a written description of the protocol.

ChemBioDraw 12.0.3 for Mac available

CambridgeSoft has released ChemBioDraw 12.0.3 for Mac. This version addresses bugs with version 12.0.2, including problems with the registration screen. This release can be downloaded at:

A CambridgeSoft login is required to download this update. Select "ChemBioDraw" as the Product. Follow the Mac installation instructions to install the update.
