Lasergene 12.2 available

Lasergene 12.2 is now available for download from the Kresge Library site at:

http://library.scripps.edu/lasergene

Product Keys are no longer required.

Lasergene is a comprehensive DNA and protein sequence and structure analysis software suite. TSRI has a site license for the Lasergene Structural Biology and Evolution Suites, formerly called the Core Suite.

Although TSRI's license is for the *network* version of Lasergene, you can check out a license using the Commuter License Manager for remote (off-network) access. This manager is installed on each client machine in the same directory as the Lasergene or ArrayStar applications. You may use the Commuter License Manager to check out one simultaneous use of a license for up to 30 days. Once a license is checked out, the client computer can be disconnected from the network and the client applications will continue to function. Remember to check the Commuter License back in when returning to the network version so that others can use it.

New JCR data and InCites

The latest journal impact factors are out! Check out the Journal Citation Reports database to get the latest impact factor for a journal you are considering publishing in.

You may notice JCR looks a lot different. It has undergone a major update and is hosted on the InCites platform.
New features and metrics include:

• Visualizations -  dynamic and interactive link and node visualizations that enable users to see the strength of relationships at both the category and journal levels
• Comparison Tools - the Compare Journals feature enables users to select journals and view comparative data based on various indicators.
• Create and Save Reports - users can save comparison reports as well as journal lists they've created that can be accessed at a later time so long as they've logged in with a username and password.
• 5-Year Journal Impact Factor is the average number of times articles from a journal published in the past five years have been cited in the JCR year. For journals in subjects where citation activity continues to rise through several years, this metric allows more of their total citation activity to be included in a critical performance metric.
• Eigenfactor® Metrics, comprising the Eigenfactor® Score and Article Influence® Score, use JCR citation data to assess the influence of a journal in relation to other journals. These metrics, based on five years of citation activity, consider not just the count of citations but the structure of the citation network.

Biosketch training

The Library will be providing several training sessions on the New NIH Biosketch format.

Seminars giving an overview on the new format are scheduled for :

• Wednesday, April 22, from 10am-11am in the Committee Lecture Hall MBB2N
• Wednesday, May 6, from 11am-12pm in IMM 1W
• Monday, May 11, from 11am-12 pm in MEM 1 EP (podium side)

New Biosketch format

The NIH will require use of a new Biosketch format for grant applications submitted for due dates on or after May 25, 2015.

The Library has created a guide to help you understand the new NIH Biosketch requirements.

Key changes include:

• Extends page limit from 4 to 5 pages.
• Allows applicants to add up to 4 peer reviewed publications that specifically highlight their experience to section A. Personal Statement.
• Changes section C from Selected Peer Reviewed Publications to Contribution to Science. Applicants can briefly describe up to 5 of their most significant contributions to science and include up to 4 peer reviewed publications or other non-publication products, such as patents, audio or video products, data and research materials, databases, educational aids or curricula, instruments or equipment, models, protocols, and software or netware. Each contribution should be no longer than one half page including figures and citations.
• Provide a URL to a full list of published work as found in a publicly available database, such as SciENcv or My Bibliography.

Synthetic Reaction Updates creates e-mail alerts, keeping you up-to-date on recent developments in synthetic organic chemistry. It replaces Methods in Organic Synthesis and Catalysts & Catalysed Reactions.

Create an weekly or monthly alert by:

• reaction type (can select catalytic or stereoselective reactions)
• subject keywords in the article title and/or abstract
• author
• journal
