Access to older issues of Science

The Library subscribes to ALL issues of Science, going back to volume 1, 1880.

However, access to the older issues of Science requires clicking on the correct link.

We have both links in the Library catalog and in the Journal A-Z list:

v.275(1997)- from HighWire: Current 12 months restricted to TSRI network

v.1(1880)- from JSTOR: Restricted to TSRI network: Current 6 calendar years no access at this site

When you are on the publisher's site for Science you have access only back to 1997, even though you may see other years listed. You will not be able to get access prior to 1997 on this site.

To access Science articles prior to 1997, please click on the second link that takes you to JSTOR. This is a platform that had access to the Science backfiles before they were even available with the publisher. It is also much more cost-effective.

Access to JoVE

New access to JoVE: Journal of Visualized Experiments

The Kresge Library is pleased to announce access to three sections of JoVE, the Journal of Visualized Experiments.

JoVE is a protocol resource that shows you experimental techniques through videos instead of simply reading about them. The visual format can help increase reproducibility and cut down on the time it takes to learn new experimental procedures. Each video normally includes step-by-step instructions, a demo of equipment and reagents and a discussion of possible issues and modifications.

JoVE Biology is a diverse section which includes cellular biochemistry, physical biology, genetics, physiology, systems biology, molecular biology, organismal biology and eukaryotic and prokaryotic model systems
JoVE Neuroscience is a multidisciplinary section whose primary emphasis is methods and techniques related to the structure, function, physiology and pathophysiology of the brain and nervous systems
JoVE Immunology and Infection is on trial access through 2016. Techniques deal with pathogens and therapeutic agents and range from the molecular to the organism level.

Videos are authored by scientists like you. Currently we have 7 authors from TSRI who have authored JoVE videos. Other videos come from Harvard, Cornell, UCSD, Johns Hopkins, NIH and MIT among a long list of contributors. JoVE is indexed by PubMed, SciFinder and Scopus.

Science of Synthesis Update

Science of Synthesis (SoS) has released a new update.

New features include:

Enhanced text search functionality
Better Structure/Reaction Searching and Retrieval
DOI's to increase linking to literature

Science of Synthesis has 4 short tutorials to introduce you to the new features.

Science of Synthesis was written by chemists for chemists and "provides a critical review of the synthetic methodology developed from the early 1800s to-date for the entire field of organic and organometallic chemistry."

OVID platform- no access Oct.1st

As of Oct. 1, 2015, the Library will no longer be providing access to Agricola and Medline via the OVID platform. These databases are not going away – you will still be able to access them from other platforms, just not on the OVID platform.

Medline is available:

via PubMed, the National Library of Medicine's native interface for Medline
through SciFinder
or through Web of Science, in the "All Databases” search tab

Agricola is available free from the National Agricultural Library at http://agricola.nal.usda.gov/.

If you have set up email alerts in OVID, you will be able to access them until Sept. 30, 2015. Library staff can assist you with re-creating these alerts in any of the Medline databases listed above. Or, for more information on creating search alerts, see the library guide at http://library.scripps.edu/keepingup.
