Celebrating Jonas Salk



Today's Google Doodle honors the 100th anniversary of the birth of Dr. Jonas Salk, the inventor of the first polio vaccine, and the reason we have our neighbor, the Salk Institute.

With Dr. Salk's breakthrough on the polio vaccine the number of new polio cases in the U.S. and the world dropped dramatically. He even refused to patent it.

Chemistry Nobel Prize

The 2014 Nobel Prize in Chemistry went to Eric Betzig, Stefan W. Hell and William E. Moerner  "for the development of super-resolved fluorescence microscopy”.
