SciFinder Seminar 3/31/15

The Kresge Library will host a SciFinder seminar on Tuesday, March 31, at 1:30 PM, in the Beckman building’s Keck Amphitheater on the California campus. Representatives from Chemical Abstracts Services will provide updates on SciFinder’s key features and recent enhancements as well as news from the American Chemical Society’s recent meeting in Denver.

The seminar will include a demonstration of ChemBioDraw Ultra, from which TSRI scientists may now launch a SciFinder session.

Following the formal presentation, the speakers will be available for additional questions. Attendees may bring laptops to the event for help with specific search examples or problematic structure queries.

The Scripps Florida SciFinder seminar is scheduled for August.

For more information on SciFinder as well as tips and tutorials, check out the Library's SciFinder Guide.

New Journals 2015

The Library was able to obtain access to a number of new journal titles in 2015 through various package and consortial arrangements:

Plus, there are new Open Access options for two highly requested titles:

  • RSC’s Chemical Science - will be open access and freely accessible to everyone from 2015 going forwards. RSC is also waiving the open access article processing charge for the years 2015 and 2016.
  • Nature Communications -is transitioning to open access in 2015 with many articles available for free this year, but not all. By 2016 all new articles in this journal will be open access and therefore freely available to everyone.

Computer Ebooks

Did you know the Kresge Library has a large computer ebook collection? You can see the full list of titles under our Custom Collection. We have the ability to add titles easily, so if you search the site and see a book you'd like access to, just send the Library an email with the details and we should be able to add it that same day. We have 2 seats, so that means only 2 people can be using the collection at the same time. If you get a "session unavailable" message, just try back later. It's usually not an issue (but may be for a while after this post).

Here are some recent additions to the collection:
