F1000 Reproducibility Channel

Faculty of 1000 (F1000) Research, in response to growing concerns about irreproducible science, has launched the Preclinical Reproducibility and Robustness Channel as a place to publish replication attempts - positive or negative.

"The Preclinical Reproducibility and Robustness channel is a platform for open and transparent publication of confirmatory and non-confirmatory studies in biomedical research. The channel is open to all scientists from both academia and industry and provides a centralized space for researchers to start an open dialogue, thereby helping to improve the reproducibility of studies. "

With NIH's revised grant instructions to enhance the reproducibility of research findings, this is a timely new resource.

Tips for Publishing Your Research

The American Chemical Society has compiled many resources to help you successfully publish your research.

Master the Art of Scientific Publication is a collection of 20 editorials published in ACS journals that "summarize the key steps involved in writing an effective paper, journal submission, review processes, and post-publication efforts."

Publishing Your Research 101 is a series of videos that "helps authors and reviewers understand how to get a manuscript accepted, respond to reviewer comments, navigate ethical considerations, and improve their manuscript submission process experience."
  •  Episode 1 - How to Write a Paper to Communicate Your Research: an interview with Professor George M. Whitesides from Harvard University who has published nearly 600 papers with ACS Publications, and over 1100 articles overall, and has served on the advisory boards of nine peer-reviewed journals.
  • Episode 8 – Tips for English as a Second Language Speakers: This episode focuses on the special challenges faced by speakers of English as a Second language. While the editors emphasize the fact that writing a good scientific article difficult in any language, it is especially difficult for non-native English speakers. Editors discuss the strategies they used to become proficient in writing in English and also describe the techniques they use now to help their students.

Cancer Research Resources webinar

The National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) is hosting a free webinar titled, "Resources for Cancer Research" on March 2, 2016, at 10:00 am PST.

This workshop provides an overview of NCBI molecular resources for cancer researchers. In the first part of the Webinar you will learn to more effectively use the Entrez text-based search system and the BLAST sequence similarity search tool to find data relevant to cancer research including sequence, variation, gene and expression information. The second part of the presentation will focus on accessing large-scale genomics datasets. You will learn how to search for, access and download DNA-seq, RNA-seq, Epigenomics and Metagenomics datasets and how to access the tools and APIs at NCBI that can be used to extract relevant subsets of that data for cancer research.
