An article published today in the journal Science, Promoting an Open Research Culture, spells out some guidelines for publishing scientific studies. They aim to bring more transparency, openness and reproducibility to the results of scientific research.Written in part by Dr. Marcia McNutt, editor in chief of Science as well as thirty other scientists, the guidelines come out of the Transparency and Openness Promotion (TOP) Committee that met late in 2014.
The article goes on to say that the academic promotion system does not reward open practices and that collective action is needed across scientific disciplines to make changes.
